Norway Grants “Green ICT” programme
The programme “Green ICT” objective is increased value creation and sustainable growth in Estonia’s private sector.
Green ICT aims to stimulate and develop innovation-led long-term business cooperation between Estonia and Norway. For this bilateral cooperation projects are supported to enhance joint business ambitions and innovation.
Programme supports projects in three focus areas: Green Industry Innovation, ICT and Welfare Technology.

Project goals
The main objective of the project “Expansion and automation of the production in Standwood OÜ” is to expand and automate the company’s production with the result of bringing two new product groups to the market: Finger-jointed sauna material (both thermally modified and non-thermally modified) and thermally modified façade cladding and terrace flooring made of coniferous wood.
As the production volume and the need for heat treatment will increase significantly with the launch of new product groups, two additional thermal treatment chambers will be acquired during the implementation of the project.
Project budget: 775 370 EUR
Project implementation period: 01.06.2021-30.04.2024

Project opening event
In December, 21.12.2021 the opening and information event took place in Teams communication platform. People living and working in Saue municipality, Standwood employees, customers, cooperation partners and Enterprise Estonia representants were invited to attend.
The opening event introduced the content, goals and expected results of the project. The role of the Norwegian financial mechanisms and Enterprise Estonia in the implementation of the project and the project schedule are also explained.
At the information day, thermally modified wood, its advantages and various processing equipment were also discussed in more detail. Additionally, information about opening vacancies was also shared.
New equipments
At the beginning of 2021, Standwood was the first in Estonia to introduce an innovative, high-tech heat treatment chamber based on patented vacuum technology with an annual treatment capacity of 3,000 m3.
The new heat treatment chambers procured under the Green ICT program arrived from the WDE Maspell Italy plant in January 2022 and will add 6,000 m3 of heat treatment capacity per year to the existing volume.
The first chamber and the new ones will be combined into a single heating system, which will significantly save the energy required to treat one cubic meter of wood.
Project closing event
On April 25, 2024, Standwood OÜ held the closing event for the Estonia-Norway Cooperation Programme “Green ICT” project titled “Expansion and Automation of Standwood OÜ’s Production.” The event was attended by residents and entrepreneurs from Saue municipality, Standwood’s clients and partners, Standwood employees, and representatives from EAS.
At the closing event, the project’s objectives, activities schedule, and final results were presented, and the roles of the Norwegian financial mechanisms and EAS in the project’s implementation were explained.
At the closing event, the reduction in energy consumption and CO2 emissions resulting from the integration of the thermal chambers was presented. Additionally, a new product was introduced – a laminated wall panel, which allows for the utilization of wood waste and defects, making the production more resource-efficient.
